CLIFTON, NJ — Reliable recycling collection should be a basic expectation for every Clifton household. Residents deserve clear schedules, timely service notifications, and a straightforward process for resolving missed pickups.
City Council candidate Tafari Anderson is proposing a Recycling Service Accountability Plan that builds upon Clifton’s existing collection services and technology.
Clifton reassigned portions of Recycling Section 3 to Section 8 beginning January 2026 to improve service consistency. Anderson believes this operational change presents an opportunity to examine whether communication and service reliability can be strengthened throughout the city.
“Residents should not have to navigate confusing schedules or make repeated calls to resolve a missed collection,” Anderson stated. “Clifton needs clear expectations and measurable accountability.”
Anderson recommends establishing service-response standards, tracking recurring collection problems, publishing periodic performance summaries, and improving notifications when routes change.
Rather than purchasing another technology platform, Anderson proposes expanding awareness and effective use of Clifton’s existing Recycle Coach service.
New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection supports Recycle Coach as a statewide resource for collection schedules, recycling guidance, service alerts, and municipal communication.
Anderson also recommends reviewing nearby municipalities’ cooperative waste and recycling arrangements. Passaic County documents partnerships involving Bloomingdale, Butler, Pompton Lakes, and Wanaque that demonstrate opportunities for regional service coordination.
“Shared services should be evaluated carefully, with service quality and taxpayer value guiding every decision,” Anderson added.
He calls for a 90-day Public Works review of collection communications, missed-pickup resolution, and practical opportunities for operational improvement.
