Anderson Calls for Long-Term Police Staffing and Neighborhood Safety Planning

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLIFTON, NJ — Public safety requires more than responding to emergencies. It depends on effective planning, professional training, reliable neighborhood coverage, and continued support for the men and women serving in law enforcement.

City Council candidate Tafari Anderson is proposing a Police Staffing, Retention, and Neighborhood Safety Review to help Clifton identify future personnel and operational needs.

“Supporting our police officers means making thoughtful decisions about staffing, equipment, training, and the resources necessary to protect residents,” Anderson stated.

Anderson recommends that city leadership work with the Police Chief to review authorized staffing, recruitment procedures, retirement planning, employee retention, and the administrative demands placed upon sworn officers.

The review should identify opportunities to strengthen neighborhood policing while protecting confidential personnel information and sensitive deployment procedures.

Regional cooperation also deserves consideration.

Passaic County documents existing public safety partnerships, including emergency dispatch services provided by the County Sheriff’s Office to Wanaque and regional hazardous-materials response involving Clifton, Paterson, and Wayne.

These arrangements illustrate how municipalities can coordinate specialized functions without surrendering local responsibility for public safety.

Anderson recommends evaluating appropriate cooperative training, specialized equipment, and emergency-response coordination while maintaining Clifton’s operational independence.

He also proposes reviewing available state and federal assistance for recruitment and professional development, subject to verified eligibility and long-term financial obligations.

“Clifton should plan ahead rather than wait until personnel challenges interfere with essential services,” Anderson added.

Anderson calls for a multiyear public safety planning framework with annual reporting on recruitment objectives, professional development, and operational priorities.

“Safe neighborhoods begin with strong law enforcement and responsible leadership,” Anderson concluded.
