Anderson Calls for Stronger Neighborhood Cleanup and Illegal Dumping Prevention

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLIFTON, NJ — Clean streets, maintained parks, and responsible waste disposal are essential to preserving Clifton’s neighborhoods and protecting residents’ quality of life.

City Council candidate Tafari Anderson is calling for a coordinated Neighborhood Cleanliness and Illegal Dumping Prevention Program that emphasizes accountability, enforcement, and community participation.

Clifton’s Recycling Division already has responsibilities involving waste removal from city parks and enforcement of solid-waste regulations. Anderson believes the city should build upon these existing responsibilities with clearer reporting and measurable follow-through.

“Residents who maintain their properties and follow disposal rules deserve a city that responds effectively when public spaces are neglected,” Anderson stated.

Anderson recommends identifying recurring problem locations, coordinating enforcement with cleanup operations, and providing residents with a centralized way to submit photographs and report concerns.

Wayne Township offers a useful regional example through its online Citizen Request Tracker, which allows residents to submit concerns and check their status.

Anderson believes Clifton should evaluate whether its existing reporting tools provide comparable transparency and whether complaints can be tracked through resolution.

He also proposes scheduled neighborhood cleanup partnerships involving community associations, local businesses, and volunteers.

Passaic County documents regional street-sweeping arrangements involving Bloomingdale, Pompton Lakes, Oakland, and Riverdale. Anderson recommends reviewing similar cooperative opportunities for specialized equipment and maintenance services where appropriate.

“Cleaning a location is only part of the job,” Anderson added. “Preventing the same problem from returning is how government delivers lasting results.”

Anderson calls for quarterly public updates on completed cleanups, recurring concerns, and enforcement activity, with appropriate privacy protections.
