Anderson Calls for a Transparent Pavement Management Plan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLIFTON, NJ — Clifton residents deserve to know how streets are selected for resurfacing and when deteriorating roads will receive attention. Tafari K. Anderson, candidate for Clifton City Council, is proposing a transparent, condition-based pavement management program.

“Road maintenance should follow documented need and sound engineering, not guesswork or political pressure,” Anderson stated. “Taxpayers should be able to see where their street stands.”

Anderson recommends creating a public inventory of pavement conditions and establishing clear criteria for prioritizing repairs, including road deterioration, traffic volume, safety risks, and coordination with other infrastructure projects.

The City should publish an annual paving schedule, estimated project costs, and progress reports identifying completed streets and changes to planned work.

Anderson also calls for coordination among public works, engineering, and utilities so that sewer or water-main projects are considered before resurfacing, reducing the risk of cutting into newly paved roads.

“Paving a street only to dig it up again because departments failed to coordinate is an avoidable expense,” Anderson said. “Planning ahead protects both neighborhoods and municipal finances.”

Anderson supports pursuing eligible infrastructure funding and publishing measurable annual results, including completed resurfacing work and outstanding repair priorities.
