Anderson Proposes Expanded Youth Recreation Through Community Partnerships

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLIFTON, NJ — October 25, 2026 — Clifton City Council candidate Tafari Anderson is proposing stronger partnerships between the City’s Recreation Department, the Boys & Girls Club, local schools, nonprofit organizations, and community businesses to expand affordable youth programs without placing unnecessary burdens on taxpayers.

“Investing in our young people strengthens families, builds safer neighborhoods, and creates opportunities for the next generation,” Anderson stated. “We should maximize existing community resources before asking taxpayers to fund expensive new programs.”

Anderson recommends five priorities:

  1. Community Partnerships: Coordinate with youth-serving organizations to expand sports, arts, educational enrichment, and after-school activities.
  2. Shared Facilities: Explore agreements allowing responsible use of school gyms, athletic fields, and municipal facilities during available hours.
  3. Affordable Participation: Pursue sponsorships, grants, and scholarships to reduce financial barriers for families.
  4. Inclusive Programming: Expand accessible opportunities for children with disabilities and special needs.
  5. Measurable Accountability: Track participation, program costs, facility utilization, and resident satisfaction.

Anderson also recommends establishing a youth recreation advisory group involving parents, educators, recreation professionals, and community organizations.

“Every child deserves an opportunity to participate, regardless of family income or ability,” Anderson emphasized.

The proposal would prioritize existing budgets, private sponsorships, and competitive grants before considering additional municipal spending.

“Clifton can deliver better recreational opportunities through cooperation, responsible budgeting, and innovative partnerships,” Anderson concluded. “Our children deserve a community that invests wisely in their future.”
