CLIFTON, NJ — October 25, 2026 — Clifton City Council candidate Tafari Anderson is proposing a Veterans Resource Center at City Hall to help Clifton veterans and their families access benefits, healthcare, employment assistance, and essential support services.
“Our veterans served our country with courage and sacrifice,” Anderson stated. “Clifton should make it easier for them to receive the assistance and recognition they have earned.”
Anderson recommends six priorities:
- Centralized Assistance: Designate a City Hall resource point connecting veterans with county, state, federal, and nonprofit services.
- Healthcare and Benefits: Provide referrals for VA healthcare, disability compensation, mental health counseling, and benefits applications.
- Employment and Education: Connect veterans with hiring programs, workforce training, GI Bill resources, and educational opportunities.
- Housing Support: Coordinate referrals for housing assistance, homelessness prevention, and emergency resources.
- Community Recognition: Strengthen partnerships with local veterans organizations and expand opportunities to honor military service.
- Accountability: Track referrals, outreach activities, service accessibility, and program costs.
Anderson recommends beginning with existing municipal space and partnerships rather than creating an expensive new department.
“Veterans should not have to navigate multiple agencies without guidance,” Anderson emphasized. “City Hall can serve as a reliable starting point for finding assistance.”
The initiative would seek cooperation with the Passaic County Veterans’ Services Office, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and community organizations.
“Supporting our veterans is a responsibility, not a political talking point,” Anderson concluded. “Clifton should lead through meaningful action.”
