Anderson Calls for a Data-Driven Review of Clifton’s Transit and Commuter Services

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLIFTON, NJ — October 25, 2026 — Clifton City Council candidate Tafari Anderson is calling for a comprehensive evaluation of public transportation, commuter access, and microtransit opportunities to improve mobility while protecting municipal taxpayers.

“Reliable transportation connects residents to employment, healthcare, education, and essential services,” Anderson stated. “Clifton needs practical solutions supported by measurable results, not expensive programs without clear benefits.”

Anderson proposes six priorities:

  1. Transportation Needs Assessment: Identify underserved neighborhoods, commuter challenges, and gaps in access to essential destinations.
  2. Regional Coordination: Work with NJ TRANSIT, Passaic County, and neighboring municipalities to evaluate existing service coverage.
  3. Microtransit Feasibility: Examine demand-responsive transportation options where traditional fixed-route service may be insufficient.
  4. Senior and Disability Access: Prioritize accessible transportation connections for older adults and residents with disabilities.
  5. Commuter Infrastructure: Review bus stops, sidewalks, lighting, pedestrian crossings, and connections to regional transportation.
  6. Fiscal Accountability: Require transparent operating costs, ridership projections, performance measures, and potential grant funding before approving new services.

Anderson recommends considering limited pilot programs only after establishing demand, costs, service responsibilities, and measurable success criteria.

“Transportation improvements must be affordable, accessible, and accountable,” Anderson said. “Every proposed service should demonstrate a genuine benefit to residents.”

He also supports publishing annual transportation performance information and gathering resident feedback before expanding municipal commitments.

“Clifton deserves transportation planning that connects communities without creating unnecessary long-term financial obligations,” Anderson concluded.
