CLIFTON, NJ — October 25, 2026 — Clifton City Council candidate Tafari Anderson is proposing a coordinated senior services initiative to help older residents remain safe, independent, and connected to their community while protecting taxpayers from unnecessary spending.
“Clifton’s seniors helped build the community we enjoy today,” Anderson stated. “They deserve accessible services, safe neighborhoods, and the opportunity to remain in their homes with dignity.”
Anderson recommends six improvements:
- Senior Resource Coordination: Establish a centralized information service connecting residents with county, state, federal, and nonprofit assistance programs.
- Transportation Access: Evaluate partnerships and existing transportation services for medical appointments, shopping, and community activities.
- Property Tax Assistance: Improve outreach regarding eligible property tax relief, including New Jersey’s Senior Freeze and other applicable programs.
- Home Safety: Coordinate educational programs addressing fall prevention, emergency preparedness, and household safety.
- Social Engagement: Expand partnerships supporting recreational activities, wellness programs, and opportunities to reduce isolation.
- Accessibility Improvements: Prioritize pedestrian safety, sidewalk maintenance, accessible public facilities, and appropriate accommodations.
Anderson proposes measuring program effectiveness through participation, service accessibility, resident feedback, and annual cost reporting.
“Helping seniors remain independent should begin with better coordination of resources we already have,” Anderson said. “We can improve services without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.”
He also supports working with Passaic County agencies, healthcare organizations, and community nonprofits to identify service gaps and pursue available funding.
“Clifton must remain a community where residents can raise families, retire, and age with confidence,” Anderson concluded.
