Candidate Demands Transparency, Infrastructure Accountability, and Neighborhood Protection
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CLIFTON, NJ — October 23, 2026 — Clifton City Council candidate Tafari Anderson, Ballot #12, is calling for greater scrutiny of three development applications recently appearing before Clifton’s Planning and Zoning Boards.
“Responsible development must protect taxpayers, public safety, and neighborhood quality of life,” Anderson stated. “Clifton cannot afford decisions that create additional traffic, flooding, or infrastructure burdens without proper safeguards.”
Three High-Priority Development Reviews
340 Kingsland Street — Proposed Chick-fil-A: Anderson urges examination of drive-through congestion, traffic circulation, pedestrian safety, stormwater management, and neighborhood impacts.
43 Clifton Avenue — School Expansion: The proposed 8,800-square-foot addition warrants review of student transportation, parking, bus circulation, emergency access, and surrounding residential streets.
171–199 Scoles Avenue — Development and Use Variances: Anderson calls for transparency regarding proposed uses, zoning exceptions, commercial traffic, drainage, and compatibility with surrounding properties.
Six Accountability Recommendations
- Require professional traffic, engineering, and environmental reviews.
- Assess cumulative neighborhood and infrastructure impacts.
- Publish development applications and supporting documents.
- Verify road, drainage, utility, and emergency-service capacity.
- Establish enforceable approval conditions and compliance monitoring.
- Publicly disclose board decisions, resolutions, and development obligations.
“Residents deserve to understand what is proposed, why zoning exceptions are requested, and how their neighborhoods will be protected,” Anderson emphasized.
Anderson supports independent land-use boards operating under New Jersey law while urging stronger municipal planning and public accountability.
“Clifton welcomes responsible investment, but growth must never come at the expense of residents,” Anderson concluded. “I encourage everyone to attend public hearings, ask questions, and help protect Clifton’s future.”
