Anderson Demands Greater Accountability and Long-Term Solutions to Clifton’s Brown Water Problems

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | October 17, 2026

CLIFTON, NJ — Tafari K. Anderson, candidate for Clifton City Council, is calling for immediate attention to residents’ concerns about brown and discolored tap water, urging the City of Clifton and the Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) to work together on practical solutions that protect public health and restore confidence in local water service.

“Clean, reliable drinking water is not a luxury. It is a basic service that every Clifton family deserves,” Anderson stated. “When residents turn on their faucets and see brown water, they should not be left wondering whether it is safe to drink, cook with, or use in their homes.”

Water discoloration can result from sediment disturbances, hydrant flushing, water-main breaks, and aging distribution infrastructure. Anderson believes recurring complaints warrant thorough investigation, clear communication, and preventive action rather than temporary responses.

“Residents deserve answers, not excuses,” Anderson said. “We must identify the causes of these problems, communicate the findings, and establish measurable improvements that prevent the same conditions from repeatedly affecting our neighborhoods.”

Anderson is proposing a coordinated water-quality improvement initiative that includes routine investigation and transparent reporting of discoloration complaints, targeted replacement of deteriorating water mains, improved notification before flushing and maintenance activities, and a centralized system for tracking complaints and corrective actions.

He also recommends that Clifton’s municipal leadership advocate for a publicly accessible infrastructure improvement schedule, regular progress reports from PVWC, and available state and federal funding to minimize additional financial burdens on ratepayers.

“Accountability means knowing which infrastructure needs attention, how much improvements will cost, and when residents can expect results,” Anderson emphasized. “Taxpayers and ratepayers deserve responsible investments, not another cycle of emergency repairs and unanswered questions.”

Anderson stressed that municipal officials must work within their authority while holding water-service providers accountable through cooperation, public reporting, and consistent advocacy for residents.

“Clifton families deserve confidence every time they turn on the tap,” Anderson concluded. “Protecting water quality, modernizing infrastructure, and demanding transparency will be priorities I bring to the City Council.”
