CLIFTON, N.J. — September 16, 2026 — Clifton City Council candidate Tafari K. Anderson is reaffirming his commitment to conservative government based on fiscal responsibility, public safety, constitutional rights, responsible development and accountability to taxpayers.
Anderson believes municipal government must focus on essential responsibilities and measurable results without treating higher taxes and increased spending as automatic solutions. Clifton needs disciplined leadership that protects taxpayers while maintaining dependable public services.
His fiscal platform includes zero-based budgeting, requiring departments to justify proposed expenses from the ground up instead of relying automatically on the previous year’s spending. Anderson also supports an independent, professionally conducted financial and efficiency audit to identify waste, duplication and opportunities for savings.
Major municipal contracts should follow transparent and competitive procurement procedures. Detailed specifications, public cost comparisons, measurable performance requirements and penalties for nonperformance would help ensure that taxpayers receive reliable services at a sustainable cost.
Anderson also believes development decisions must account for their effect on Clifton’s schools. He proposes regular collaboration among the City Council, Planning Board and Clifton Board of Education so officials can evaluate how proposed residential development may affect enrollment, classroom capacity, staffing, transportation and school facilities. Families and taxpayers deserve this information before—not after—major development decisions are finalized.
To expand community services without creating an unnecessarily larger government, Anderson recommends investigating a public-private partnership between Clifton’s Recreation Department and the Boys & Girls Club. Any proposal should identify community needs, available facilities, program costs, performance standards and safeguards for taxpayers.
Such a partnership could be evaluated for its ability to support the evolving needs of Clifton’s children while expanding appropriate recreational, educational and wellness opportunities for seniors and veterans. No agreement should proceed without public review, transparent financial terms and evidence that it would improve services or provide better value.
Public safety remains a fundamental responsibility of local government. Anderson supports effective law enforcement, firefighters and emergency personnel while expecting every public agency to operate professionally, lawfully and accountably. He also supports investment in roads, flood mitigation and aging infrastructure based on clear priorities and long-term planning.
Anderson’s objective is to protect Clifton taxpayers from a tax-and-spend approach that measures government by how much it spends instead of what it accomplishes. Every proposal should be evaluated according to its necessity, effectiveness, total cost and effect on property taxpayers.
The official notice issued by Clifton City Clerk Kathleen Tolosi confirms that Anderson will appear in ballot position #12 in the November 3, 2026 Council-at-Large election.
