FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CLIFTON, NJ — Clifton’s streets should be safer for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and families without imposing unnecessary restrictions on residents who follow the rules. Tafari K. Anderson, candidate for Clifton City Council, is calling for targeted, measurable improvements to pedestrian, e-bike, and traffic safety.
“Safety policies should address dangerous behavior and dangerous locations, not punish everyone with blanket restrictions,” Anderson said. “Residents deserve practical solutions backed by evidence.”
Anderson recommends that municipal officials use crash records, resident complaints, and traffic observations to identify intersections and corridors that need attention. Priorities should include school routes, parks, senior facilities, and transit stops, with attention to crosswalk markings, visibility, street lighting, and signal timing.
He also supports coordinated public education about e-bike operation and consistent enforcement of applicable traffic rules. Police, engineers, and school officials should work together to identify appropriate responses within their legal authority.
“The City should publish what it plans to fix, how much it expects to spend, and how it will measure results,” Anderson said. “Public safety and fiscal responsibility belong in the same conversation.”
Anderson proposes regular progress updates on completed improvements and safety outcomes so residents can evaluate whether municipal actions are working.
