FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CLIFTON, NJ — Tafari Anderson, candidate for Clifton City Council, is calling for an independent, time-limited efficiency and performance audit of city government focused on eliminating waste without weakening essential services.
“Taxpayers should not be asked for more money until City Hall can show that the money already being collected is being used efficiently,” Anderson said.
Anderson’s proposal would review duplicated functions, outdated processes, unnecessary contracts, overtime drivers, fleet utilization, technology gaps, procurement practices, and administrative costs. The audit should identify measurable savings, assign responsibility for reforms, and publish progress so residents can see which recommendations were implemented and which were rejected.
The purpose is not indiscriminate cutting. Police, fire protection, roads, drainage, sanitation, and other core services must remain protected. Instead, the audit should separate essential spending from waste and practices that continue simply because “that is how it has always been done.”
“A conservative government should constantly ask whether a service can be delivered better, faster, or at lower cost,” Anderson said. “If the answer is yes, taxpayers deserve action.”
Anderson also wants the City to disclose the long-term cost of major contracts and capital commitments, pursue competitive purchasing opportunities, and use technology to reduce repetitive administrative work.
“Clifton families review their expenses when costs rise. City Hall should be held to the same standard,” Anderson said. “Protect essential services, eliminate waste, and restore accountability to the taxpayer.”
