Anderson Urges Clear Timelines and Financial Oversight for Athenia Storm Sewer Improvements

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLIFTON, NJ — Residents affected by recurring drainage problems deserve clear answers about the infrastructure improvements intended to protect their properties.

Tafari K. Anderson, candidate for Clifton City Council, is advocating stronger project management and public reporting for the Athenia relief storm sewer initiative.

“Every major infrastructure project should begin with a clear purpose, a realistic budget, and a schedule that residents can understand,” Anderson stated.

Anderson proposes a publicly accessible project dashboard identifying planned construction activities, anticipated completion milestones, projected costs, and any disruptions that could affect nearby residents and businesses.

He believes coordination among municipal engineers, contractors, utilities, and emergency management personnel is essential to minimizing delays and avoiding unnecessary expenses.

The City should also communicate proactively with affected property owners about construction schedules, temporary access restrictions, and changes to anticipated work.

Anderson recommends examining available state and federal infrastructure funding to reduce the financial burden on Clifton taxpayers.

He emphasized that project oversight should include measurable outcomes, not merely reports of money spent.

“Residents want to know whether the improvements will make their neighborhoods safer and reduce recurring flooding problems,” Anderson said.

He also supports post-construction evaluation to determine whether completed improvements perform as intended.

“Clifton needs infrastructure investments that are carefully planned, competently managed, and transparently reported,” Anderson concluded. “That is how we protect both our neighborhoods and our taxpayers.”
